The Company

The Complex Structure of Oncology of the University Hospital of Modena carries out an intense research activity in the oncology field. The structure deals with:
– patients enrolled in inpatient Phase 1 clinical trials;
– diagnosis of onco-haematological diseases;
– specific treatment of non-acute haematological and oncological neoplasms;
– treatment of internal problems of patients with oncological and haematological diseases;
– symptomatic and supportive treatment of patients with onco-haematological diseases.

 

The Challenge

The University Hospital of Modena aims to promote the development of a clinical trial on patients with lung cancer using the data contained in hospital databases.

For the development of this clinical trial, the University Hospital of Modena participated in the European 4th Data Partner Call coordinated by the EHDEN Consortium (https://www.ehden.eu/open-calls/04-2021-4th-data%20-partner-call/).

The objective of the European call “4th Data Partner Call” is to convert patient data contained in Electronic Health Records (EHR), pathology registries, laboratory databases and other data sources managed by european hospitals, according to the OMOP COMMON DATA MODEL standard, creating an integrated structure of the collected data , facilitating their use for a variety of purposes, improving and accelerating research and decision making in the healthcare sector, achieving a global advantage.

 

The solution

DataRiver, thanks to the experience gained in the field of Big Data Integration and Clinical Data Harmonization, for which it is certified as SME by the IMI EHDEN Consortium (https://www.ehden.eu), is able to support healthcare facilities in the process of standardization of health data with respect to the OMOP Common Data Model standard.
DataRiver supported the University Hospital of Modena in the execution of the project, carrying out data cleaning, processing and mapping of data sources according to the OMOP Common Data Model format required by the project.

 

Results

The University Hospital of Modena has developed the clinical trial “Standardization of data from lung cancer patients treated by the Modenese Oncology Center”, funded by the “4th Data Partner Call” promoted by the IMI EHDEN Consortium “, obtaining more information on lung cancer patients contained in company databases.
